Your High School Journey
Remember, high school is one more step away from being an adult! Here are some keynotes to remember these four years. Make sure to take a look at the graduation requirements for each grade.
Freshman
Make your first-year count! Freshmen year (9th grade) is the foundation to a good high school experience. Make sure you are attending class, completing your work, studying for tests, and exploring Carolina. Playing around, skipping class, and not completing your work may seem cool your freshmen year but it will not be "cool" when you have to make up for it in the later years.
Sophomore
Sophomore year of high school is the 10th grade and typically the second year for most students. It's a time when teens start to feel more comfortable in high school, build stronger friendships, and begin thinking more seriously about their future—like college or careers. Many students take more challenging classes and get involved in clubs, sports, or volunteer work to explore their interests and build their resume. It's a great year for growth, both academically and personally.
Junior
Junior year of high school is the 11th grade and often considered the most important academic year. Students usually take some of their toughest classes and begin preparing for college entrance exams like the SAT or ACT, the WIN Career Ready Test. It’s also a key time to explore future plans, whether that’s college, a trade, or another path. Many teens take on leadership roles in clubs or sports and start visiting colleges or researching career options. This year is all about focus, planning, and stepping up.
Senior
Senior year of high school is the 12th grade and the final year before graduation. It’s an exciting time filled with big decisions and memorable moments. Students finish up required courses, apply to colleges or jobs, and prepare for life after high school. While there’s a lot to look forward to—like prom, senior trips, and graduation—it’s also a time to stay focused and finish strong. Senior year is all about celebrating achievements and getting ready for the next chapter.
